Morocco has started a new image by marketing themselves as ecotourism destination, and the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism has already setup strategies, rules and standards towards becoming an environmentally- friendly country making sustainability a priority. I found an amazing venue to stay on the outskirt of Marrakech in the heart of Atlas Mountain, which is now on my bucket list, the Le Ferme Berbere eco-friendly hotel. It looks very authentic and for sure it is the place to relax. It is a true escape from the city surrounded by olive trees offering accommodation, guest farm, restaurant and spa. It has had the Green Key certification since 2009 uses green best practices. The walls of the buildings made of a mix of adobe, wood and lime mimosa, which receive shades from the olive trees and their color reflect the true Arabic style of reddish, orangey tones. Le Ferme Berbere has 10 rooms and suites and two additional tents for those looking for a more simple, more nomad experience. I love the rustic interior and how it preserves the Berber country tradition in the designs. The spa offers the traditional hammam that should not be missed, along fresh detox juices served while getting a relaxing essential oil massage. They restaurant only uses fresh herbs and ingredients from their own organic garden, seasonal produce and with Mediterranean flavors. The Wellness department uses products of aromatic garden of the valley of Ourika. Le Ferme Berbere never forget about children, they have various workshops and courses for kids such as bread or Moroccan pancake making, camel, mule, horse riding or just feeding their animals. Cooking classes are not just for kids they have them for adults too teaching how to cook authentic Moroccan cuisine and family dishes. They also have workshops demonstrating how to cook gluten and dairy free dishes. As activities, partnered with Ateliers d’Ailleurs ,we can also find yoga, singing and music course to entertain ourselves, however I don’t think I could be bored in a place like that.
Once in Morocco you definitely have to have a pampering day in the hammam, visit the Sahara Desert on a tour, and sleep in a Bedouin tent, walk on the blue streets of Chefchaouen, go to the Tanneries in Fes, learn how to cook Moroccan food and try to take a peek at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.
